عاش في أحد الأيام مزارع كسول لم يكن يحبّ العمل في الحقول ولا يستمتع به. حيث كان يقضي أيّامه مستلقيًا تحت ظلّ شجرة كبيرة. في أحد الأيام وبينما كان مسترخيًا تحت الشجرة، رأى ثعلبًا يطارد أرنبًا. وفجأة سمع صوت اصطدام قوّي. لقد اصطدم الأرنب بجذع الشجرة ومات في حينها. أخذا لمزارع في الحال الأرنب الميّت، تاركًا الثعلب مغتاضًا، وذهب إلى منزله، فذبح الأرنب وأعدّ منه عشاءً لذيذًا، وباع فروه في السيق في اليوم التالي. فكّرفي حينها مع نفسه: "لو استطعتُ الحصول على أرنب هكذا كلّ يوم، فلن أضطرّ للعمل مجدّدًا في الحقل." وهكذا، ذهب المزارع في اليوم التالي إلى نفس الشجرة واستلقى تحتها منتظرًا ارتطام أرنبٍ آخر بها. خلال يومه رأى عدّة أرانب بالفعل، لكنّ أيًّا منها لم يرتطم بأيّ شجرة، بالفعل ما حدث معه في اليوم السابقة كان صدفة نادرة الحدوث حقًا. لكنه فكّر قائلاً: "أوه لا بأس، لا زال أمامي فرصة أخرى غدًا!" واستمرّ الأمر على هذا النحو لعدّة أيام وأسابيع وأشهر، فأهمل بذلك حقله، وبقي مستلقيًا بانتظار انتحار الأرنب. ممّا أدى إلى نموّ الأعشاب الضارّة في الحقل وفساد المحاصيل، وتضوّر المزارع جوعًا في نهاية المطاف، لأنه لم يجد ما يأكله، ولم يتمكّن من اصطياد أيّ أرنب. ________________________________________ (الترجمة): ________ Once upon a time there was a lazy farmer who did not like or enjoy working in the fields. Where he used to spend his days lying under the shade of a large tree. One day while he was relaxing under the tree, he saw a fox chasing a rabbit. Suddenly, a loud crash was heard. The rabbit hit the trunk of the tree and died at the time. They took the dead rabbit to a farmer at once, leaving the fox indignant, and went to his house, slaughtered the rabbit, prepared a delicious dinner from it, and sold its fur in the Siq the next day. He thought to himself, "If I could get a rabbit like that every day, I would never have to work in the field again." So the next day the farmer went to the same tree and lay down under it waiting for another rabbit to bump into it. During his day he saw several rabbits indeed, but none of them hit any tree, indeed what happened to him the day before was a really rare coincidence. But he thought, "Oh that's okay, I still have another chance tomorrow!" And the matter continued in this way for several days, weeks, and months, so he neglected his field, and remained lying, waiting for the suicide of the rabbit. Which led to the growth of weeds in the field and spoilage of crops, and the farmer starved at the end, because he did not find anything to eat, and he was unable to catch any rabbit.
