The 2022 FIFA World Cup will be the 22nd edition of the global football tournament. It will be held in Qatar, making it the first World Cup to be hosted by an Arab state. The tournament is expected to begin on 21 November and finish on 18 December. The Qatar World Cup will see an increase of eight teams from the usual 32 competing in the group stages. In addition to the usual automatic qualifiers (such as the host nation and past World Cup winners) 12 teams will qualify via the Asian Football Confederation, 4 teams via the Concacaf, 3 teams via the Confederation of African Football and 2 teams via the Oceania Football Confederation. Qatar has invested heavily in the preparation for the tournament, spending an estimated $8 billion to upgrade and build 8 brand new stadiums to host the event. The Khalifa International Stadium, previously renovated in 2018, will also host a group-stage match and will serve as the opening game. Other venues include the Education City Stadium, Al Rayyan Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium, Lusail Stadium and the new Qatar Foundation Stadium. The Qatar World Cup is seen as an opportunity for the country to promote their ambition to build a vibrant international community through the shared love of football. Additionally, it provides a chance for Qatar to shine in the international limelight and will play a key role in driving future growth in the region. In response to growing concerns surrounding heat in the Gulf region, FIFA has allowed for the installation of cooling systems in each of the stadiums, which is estimated to reduce temperatures in the area by 20 degrees Celsius. Organizers and the local population are extremely excited to welcome football fans from all over the world to Qatar and the 2022 World Cup promises to be one of the most successful ever.
